Site: Pawnee Park/Memorial Stadium
Event Details: The We Can Run, Walk & Roll event is designed to eliminate barriers of physical disabilities and allow competitors of all levels and abilities to race together. The goal of the event is to promote community wellness while providing a race that is for everyone - from beginners to competitive runners, joggers and walkers. Individuals using wheelchairs also have the opportunity to compete in the event individually or with the assistance of a team of up to three pushers.
Participants can choose to compete in a 5K (3.1 miles) or 1-mile race held in Columbus' Pawnee Park. Both races conclude in Pawnee Park's Memorial Stadium, where awards are given to the top finishers in several categories.
Proceeds from the event go toward purchasing AmTrykes for individuals and families in our community. AmTrykes are adaptive tricycles that allow differently-abled individuals to participate more fully in health and wellness activities.
Since the first event in 2011, We Can Run, Walk & Roll events have funded the purchase of more than 45 AmTrykes which have been given to individuals and families in our community. Proceeds from the event have also helped support a fundraising effort for a barrier-free playground in our community.
